Although she claimed that she had a hundred dress and sixty shoes at her home Two best friends , Peggy and Maddie were the most famous girl in the school while anyone barely knew Wanda. The story is about the viewpoint of Maddie. Who was the best friend of the main player in the daily taunting and teasing. Wanda classmates teased her because she claimed to have a hundred dresses “all lined up in her close although, always being seen wearing . The ones who mainly teased her were the two best friends Peggy and Maddie.

Wanda classmates teased her because she claimed to have a hundred dresses “all lined up in her close although, always being seen wearing . The ones who mainly teased her were the two best friends Peggy and Maddie. Thinking about Wanda and her hundred dresses Maddie’s thoughts diverted to the drawing and coloring competition . Maddie was sure that Peggy would win the contest.

The next day it was drizzling. Maddie and Peggy hurried to school under Peggy’s umbrella. Since the day is important, they hurried to the school. The minute they entered the classroom they stopped short and gasped. There were drawings all over the room, on every ledge and windowsill. There must have been a hundred of them, all lined up.

As soon as the class had assembled, miss Mason announced the winners. Jack Beggles had won for the boys, she said. And for the girls it is Wanda Petronski who won the contest. Maddie is happy to learn that Wanda is the winner. The whole class applauded for Wanda, but unfortunately Wanda was not there to receive the applause that is due to her. The two girls stood in amaze at the beauty of the drawings.

The lesson begins with all the students of Room no. 13 having a look at the wonderful drawings of Wanda Petronski. Only then, a note is received by Miss Mason from Wanda’s father. In the letter Wanda’s father says that none of his two children will attend the school as they are moving to a big city where no one would judge them for their names. Miss Mason was left shocked and conveyed her disappointment to the class.

Maddie was affected by this letter of Wanda’s father. She instantly developed an urge to apologies to Wanda. Peggy and Maddie, the two best friends rush to Boggins Heights hoping that the family hadn’t moved yet. But to their dismay, there was no sign of life in and around the house Maddie lost her sleep thinking what a coward she is who couldn’t stand against the wrong.

That day she decided that she’ll never let anyone tease someone like that again. That weekend Peggy and Maddie decided to write a letter to Wanda that was originally meant to be apologetic but they ended up writing a friendly note asking her how did she like the new place.

themes of the story Discrimination, judgmental attitude Wanda Petronski is judged for her unique name and qualities. She was made fun of by Peggy, Madeline, and other girls. But Wanda never reacted to it. Wanda stopped coming to school; quite interestingly Wanda won the drawing competition held at the school. Then all the students realized how talented Wanda was. They felt sorry for having treated Wanda badly. Madeline, particularly felt bad as she also was not very rich. This story teaches us we should never make fun of the unique differences of our fellow human beings. We should try to accept them as they are and be cooperative with them .

The entire story revolves around a poor girl Wanda who is mocked by her classmates for her poor dress and she gives her reply in the form of beautifully drawn hundred dresses . These drawings not only win the contest but also win the hearts of Wanda teachers and classmates . Peggy and Maddie who were instrumental in making fun of Wanda end up the feeling sorry and having a guilty conscience Significance of title ‘ the Hundred Dresses ’
