Memory
The power and process of
reproducing and recalling what has
been learned and retained

• Memory is a “cognitive storage system”
for learned information.
• We can “recall or retrieve” information
from memory.
Imagine your life without memory.

Human memory perform the
following tasks:
 Encoding
 Storage
 Retrieval

Encoding is the conversion of information
into a form that can be stored in your
memory.
Storage is the retention of information in
our memory.
Retrieval is the process of searching,
locating and recovering information from
the memory.

STORAGE
There are three stages of storage:
•Sensory memory
•STM – Short Term Memory
•LTM – Long Term Memory

INFORMATION PROCESSING

EXERCISE LEAD TO ALPHA
STATE:
1. Eye exercise,
2. Breathe exercise,
3. Relaxation exercise.

RELAXATION EXERCISE
The relaxation exercise will mainly lead
us to change from beta to alpha state.
So, the relaxation exercise should be
done before start reading.

ART OF MEMORIZING

Visual memory
Is your visual memory better than your auditory
memory? Or do you remember things better
when you hear them? Let’s put them to the test…
Next, you will see a series of objects. Do not write
them down but try to remember them.
Now, using a pen and
paper, write down as
many objects as you
can remember in 30
seconds.

Visual memory
How many did you get right?

Auditory memory
Now, let’s test your auditory memory.
We will read out a series of 15 objects. Do
not write them down but listen and try to
remember them.
Now, using a pen and paper, write down as
many words as you can remember in 30
seconds.

Memory Techniques

Mnemonics
Mnemonics are memory tricks, or techniques
which are used to help us remember something.
Techniques you can try include:
•Acronyms
Acronyms take the first letter of a group of words, to
form a new word – this is especially useful for
remembering words in a particular order.

-MUSCULAR SYSTEM

-EXCRETORY SYSTEM
-NERVOUS SYSTEM

•Linking
The linking method uses our visual
memory, to imagine associations
between two words. We might associate
words in our head.

•The story method
In order to remember a list of words or objects,
you could try a storytelling approach. Using
your imagination, picture the words or objects
you want to remember by placing them in your
story

To remember the words:
Queen
Pepper pot
Table
Hat
Joke
Chair
Your story might go like this:
The Queen lost her crown, so she picked up a pepper pot,
from the table, and wore it like a hat. The king thought
this was a marvellous joke and laughed until he fell off
his chair.
