The origins of music Music is a form of artistic expression that has existed since ancient times, its origin is difficult to pin down , since it is believed that is arose naturally in different cultures around the world . It is estimated that the first musical sounds were produced by humanity more than four thousand years ago. In this period , the first human beings occupied natural objects and their bodies to create rhythms and melodies , it is believed that this primitive music had religious and ritual functions , and was transmitted orally , giving rise to vocal music .
Vocal music Vocal music is considered the first form of musical expression . Dates back to the beginnings of human civilization , when humans began to communicate through sounds and vocalization . In various ancient cultures, vocal music was associated with religious practices and ceremonies . Many civilizations , such as those of the ancient Egyptian , Geeks , Romans , used choirs and chants . With the passage of time, new musical styles arose influenced by different cultures and artistic currents. During the Renaissance, polyphonic music and madrigals were popular. Instrumental music Instrumental music is composed and performed using only musical instruments, without the presence of the human voice . It has been mainly concerned with cultures such as China, Egypt and the Greek, where instruments such as the flute, the lute, the lyre and the zither were used. However, it was in Western classical music where instrumental music began to play a central role . During the Renaissance and Baroque times, instrumental music became popular thanks to the appearance of different forms and musical genres such as the suite, the concerto and the symphony. Composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach, Georg Friederich and Antonio Vivaldi were leading figures in the composition of instrumental music in that period.
In the classical period, during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, more complex and virtuoso instrumental forms were developed, such as the piano concerto, the string quartet, and the symphony.
