INTRODUCTION Information Technology (IT) today is not just a subject that is taught to the younger generation, it has become a vital tool in the delivery of education at every level. With PowerPoint presentations, YouTube videos, and online portals, technology is playing an increasingly important role in college classrooms and lecture halls. But are those technologies improving learning?
Objective Two main objectives : To explore the situation of IT in education To rise the appreciation of IT role in education
The problem about the role of IT A recent study by David R. Johnson, " Technological Change and Professional Control in the Professoriate ," revealed that the : Overwhelming classroom use of software is not in teaching or learning, but in classroom administration, and that in general, academic teachers find IT more useful to record and calculate grades, format and print handouts and exams, and communicate with students than they do for pedagogy. Some Professors Say Technology Helps in Logistics, Not Learning.
Current situation of IT role The four most common mistakes in introducing ITs into teaching are: ( i ) installing learning technology without reviewing student needs and content availability; (ii) imposing technological systems from the top down without involving faculty and students; (iii) using inappropriate content from other regions of the world without customizing it appropriately; and (iv) producing low quality content that has poor instructional design and is not adapted to the technology in use.
Getting benefit out of IT in education Tools are now available on the Internet to assist both teachers and students to manage writing assignments to detect and avoid the pitfalls of plagiarism and copyright violations. Digital learning(provide flexibility) which is part and parcel of ICT applications in education comes in many forms ,These forms include: Online Courses: i.e. those courses offered online only. Hybrid Courses: i.e. those courses offered mostly online but retain some in-person elements. Blended Courses: i.e. those courses with almost 50/50 blending on face-to-face classroom based and online lectures. Flipped Classes
Recommendations More studies / researches can be and should still be done in this area. Focusing on the impact of IT on the teaching process . Conducting more seminars and meetings on how to use technology efficiently in pedagogy.
