BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY This study aims to determine the English-speaking fluency levels of first-year English major students registered in the academic year 2023-2024 at Tagoloan Community College in order to establish intervention strategies out of the results that can be obtained in this study with a focus on improving their English-speaking fluency.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM 1. What is the profile of the respondents when grouped according to: 1.1 Age 1.2 Sex? 2 . What is the level of students' speaking fluency in terms of: 2.1 Fluency 2.2 Pronunciation 2.3 Diction 3 . What intervention can be developed based on the findings of the study ?
SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM
METHODOLOGY This study utilized a mixed-method design, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative methods to comprehensively determine the level of students' speaking fluency. There are a total of 118 respondents in this study . The study utilized simple random sampling to select participants from the student population. The study was conducted at Tagoloan Community College. The research instrument used for this study consisted of three (3) parts that include the questionnaire, rubrics, a video for the speech, and a video recorder . The validity of the instruments for data collection in this study was done through expert reviewed researcher made rubrics. The study used different statistical procedures such as ; Frequency and Percentage, Weighted Mean and Standard Deviation, and D escriptive S tatistics.

3. What intervention can be developed based on the findings of the study? CATEGORY PROPOSED INTERVENTIONS Age Distribution Develop age-specific curriculum enhancements focusing on recent high school graduates (18-20 years old). Provide fitted support for older students (24+ years old) to bridge gaps and leverage their unique experiences. Sex Distribution Promote gender inclusivity by highlighting diverse career opportunities in English-related fields. Implement outreach programs to attract more male students to the English major. Fluency Levels Increase resources for foundational speaking skills. Introduce more speaking activities, practice sessions, and mentorship programs with proficient students. Pronunciation Levels Emphasize practical speaking exercises in the curriculum. Organize interactive activities like debates, presentations, and conversational practice. Provide personalized feedback and access to language learning apps. Diction Levels Focus on pronunciation exercises and speaking activities. Provide individual feedback to students. Promote continuous support and encouragement to boost confidence in using English. Implement peer mentoring programs to share effective learning strategies.
CONCLUSION AND RECOMENDATIONS The study examined the speaking fluency levels of first-year English major students at Tagoloan Community College. It has found that most students are recent high school graduates, with a higher female enrollment. However, significant proportion of students are categorized as "Emerging“ in terms of fluency and diction levels and "Developing" for pronunciation, indicating a need for improved language training. The study recommends age-specific curriculum enhancements, gender-inclusive outreach programs, and targeted interventions for older students.
