Tips in Learning a Foreign Language
Comprehension: The ability to understand completely the written or spoken language . ======================> Reading Comprehension The ability to understand completely the written language .
Strategies in understanding the vocabulary Don’t look up all the new words. Before you look up a word, decide if it is a noun, a verb, an adjective etc. If there is more than one definition/meaning, use the context to help you decide. Finally, check that the definition fits with the use of the word in the text. Examples : She came first in the competition. She seemed very shy at first . Our classroom is in the first floor. Definition/Meaning: Adjective (adj.)  the level of a building above the ground Noun (n.)  before any other. Adverb (adv.)  in the beginning. B C A
Language Some animals, (1) like dolphins or bees, have ways of communicating, but only humans (2) like using language for fun. Some chimpanzees have learnt sign language but they can only copy language – they don’t really communicate. Human language probably started between 40,000 and 50,000 years ago when people started to live and hunt together. However, those people didn’t speak very well – they could only use their voices (3) like small babies. Today, we know about 4,000 – 5,000 languages in the word. But there are probably more that we haven’t discover yet. Definition/Meaning: verb (v.) to find someone or something pleasant. B. preposition (prep.) f or example in a similar way to something or someone
