Khan academy Link: Khan Academy | Free Online Courses, Lessons & Practice Use: Comprehensive—covers the entire Algebra 1 curriculum with video lessons, practice problems, and assessments. Authenticity: Offers real-world problem applications in some lessons Feedback: Immediate feedback on quizzes and exercises with explanations for incorrect answers. Higher Thinking: Encourages critical thinking and problem-solving through multi-step problems and conceptual lessons.

Khan academy User Friendliness: Very user-friendly with intuitive navigation and clear structure. Detailed and clear instructions accompany every video and exercise Privacy: Curriculum Standards: Fully aligned with Common Core and state standards for Algebra Differentiation: Offers a self-paced learning experience, so students can move at their own level.

Why it made the list: Khan Academy had a relatively large group of reviews that we as a group grew attatched to. With the provided effort of the lessons that it created it was no wonder why it was so popular. This and the Kids version was created under the same umbrella was a no-brainer to use in how much it aided in teacher’s curriculums and how it is used to aid children.

Duolingo Link: www.duolingo.com Use: Used for learning almost every language at your own pace. Authenticity: Can be used with AI to practice conversational speech over a microphone. Feedback: Immediate feedback, with chances to fix your mistakes with added personalized practice. Higher Thinking: Encourages students to engage in audio and speech features to move on from level to level. The longer your “streak” the more rewards you will receive.

Duolingo User Friendliness: Progression is symbolized by a path that moves on and on until the units are complete. Privacy: Connected through e-mail. Depending on if you have a subscription to Duolingo Max, can have no advertisements as well. Curriculum Standards: State standards for completing courses in most languages. Differentiation: Provides English lessons as well for ELLs.

Why it made the list: Duolingo has made an impact everywhere and there are enough people we believed that knew about it in the classroom that the integration would be seamless. Duolingo has had an impact on so many lives all over the world and the easiness in which most people knew how to handle the interface would be essential to a well-paced classroom.

Microsoft Math solver Link: Microsoft Math Solver - Math Problem Solver & Calculator Use: Great for reinforcing homework problems but less so for in-depth lessons. Authenticity: Provides step-by-step solutions but does not deeply engage with real-world applications. Feedback: Instant, with step-by-step breakdowns of solutions. Higher Thinking: Focuses more on procedural steps, with limited promotion of critical thinking.  Student Motivation is hight due to ease of use and immediate problem-solving.

Microsoft Math Calculator User Friendliness: Simple interface; scan the problem and get a solution. Privacy Curriculum Standards: Supports Algebra 1 standards related to equations, inequalities, and graphing. Differentiation: Limited—every student receives the same feedback regardless of skill level.

Why it made the list: The user-friendliness of the app, with the added bonus of problem-solving instruction, proved that this would be helpful for guiding students through the curriculum rather than having to be stuck behind. The added inclusion of breakdowns of problems was an essential part of the process of choosing this as one of the best apps to use for homework instruction away from the classroom.

Duolingo AbC Link: www.abc.duolingo.com Use: Teaching young children aspects of early literacy. Feedback: Just as you would with Duolingo, the feedback is instant and includes personalized practice to sharpen skills. Higher Thinking: The fundamental building blocks of early literacy are here in the app. It motivates children to complete audio challenges correctly so that they can learn and speak the words that they learn in the app. 

Duolingo Abc User Friendliness: Fine motor skills of children’s hands dragging letters to create words on the screen is for easy use for young preschoolers. Privacy: Connected with parent’s email to monitor progress. Curriculum Standards: Standards would apply to children in preschool to the second grade. Will access all aspects of early literacy including phonics and vocabulary. Differentiation: Pictures and diagrams lead children to learn based on images rather than just words.

Why it made the list: Though Duolingo had already made this list, the practices of teaching young preschool children literacy in a manner of sufficient lessons of phonics and vocabulary were the clincher here. While other apps wouldn’t touch phonics, the basis of the sounds that we hear before we can be fluent in words, made this stand out. The user interface is as simple and friendly as it’s parent app, but for little minds in mind.

MathWay Link: https://www.mathway.com/Algebra Use: Useful for practice and homework help but not integrated into lesson-based learning. Authenticity: Lacks real-world context; focuses primarily on solving individual problems. Feedback: Provides solutions and detailed steps if subscribed to the premium version. Higher Thinking: Not designed to promote critical thinking, as it’s mostly a procedural tool.

mathway User Friendliness: Simple interface but can feel mechanical Privacy: Curriculum Standards: Covers a wide range of Algebra 1 Standards Differentiation: Limited, though students can choose between different types of math problems.

Why it made the list: The instruction of Algebra was made easier with the addition of homework help that aided in the children’s understanding of the subject. It doesn’t need the bells and whistles but is a procedural tool that can be helpful when guiding a student who vibes more with this and explicit instruction.

Udemy Link: www.udemy.com Use: Education oneself on a certain topic that can be used to guide instruction in different classroom settings. Authenticity: Most of the courses have real-world applications that can be used to build up any course of educational learning. Feedback: Immediate feedback with grading and tracking progress through email. Higher Thinking: Each of the lessons provides a conclusive well of information that can be used in a variety of subjects.

Udemy User Friendliness: Each lesson is prepared to create a curriculum that is easy to follow. Privacy: This can be connected through a school email address. Curriculum Standards- All-inclusive curriculums that are used by teachers and can be incorporated into lesson plans. Differentiation: The menus are easy to get used to and are divided up into classes you are taking or recommended ones for the teacher to use.

Why it made the list: The All-encompassing strategies to learn several subjects with immediate feedback through email were essential for this to be on the list. Inclusive curriculums are a tool that can be used by teachers and students for a better understanding of a subject.

IXL Link: IXL | Math, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, and Spanish Use: Strong connection to curriculum-based instruction. Offers practice problems tied to specific curriculum units. Authenticity: Offers real-world math applications in some problem sets. Feedback: Immediate feedback on answers, with explanations for incorrect answers. Higher Thinking: Promotes critical thinking with multi-step and word problems. Moderate to high motivation due to progress tracking and goal setting.

IXL User Friendliness: Clear and easy to navigate, though the interface can feel repetitive. Privacy Curriculum Standards: Aligns with Common Core and state standards for a multitude of subjects. Differentiation: Strong, as it adapts to a student’s level and tracks progress.

Why it made the list: IXL is so influential in the classroom all over the country and there is a good reason why. Immediate feedback. Progress monitoring from the teacher’s end. Easy to use and understand. Aligning with common core curriculums for better understanding in the classroom.

Sololearn Link: www.sololearn.com/en/ Use: An app used to help business students understand coding and programming. Authenticity: Users can contact other users to show off the projects that they are successful in doing. Feedback: Peer-reviewed analysis of projects and immediate feedback with provided site’s lessons. Higher Thinking: Motivating Students to check activity feeds and social networking to excel in the field of coding and see the different ways that it can be used. 

User Friendliness: The courses have detailed menus, and the discussions are easy to understand. Privacy: It is connected to your Google account, Facebook, or email to create an account and have access to your progress.  Curriculum Standards: The use of the app is a considerable help with a class in programming for high school students.  Differentiation: Limited.

Why it made the list: Sololearn had two basic functions that were impressive to both of us. The community approach to discovering programs other students were working on can lead to networking opportunities and experimentation outside of regular classwork. The processes that each lesson made a curriculum that was well-paced and easy to follow.

Wolfram Alpha: Link: Wolfram|Alpha: Computational Intelligence (wolframalpha.com) Use: Excellent for deep dives into Algebra 1 topics and connections to advanced topics. Authenticity: Provides real-world applications for some problems, though primarily focused on solving equations. Feedback: Detailed explanations for every problem. Higher Thinking: Strong; promotes inquiry and deeper understanding of complex topics. High motivation for students interested in exploring beyond the basics of Algebra.

Wolfram Alpha User Friendliness: High for tech-savvy users, but the depth of tools may overwhelm some students. Privacy Curriculum Standards: Aligns with Algebra 1 standards across a broad range of topics. Differentiation: Limited, though the app can solve both basic and advanced problems.

Why it made the list: The instruction of multiple fields of math was essential to choosing this as one of the best. High student motivation with the real-world applications the lessons provide. Detailed Feedback for every problem. Clear and concise problem-solving and engaging interest in the more tech-savvy.

quizlet Link: www.quizlet.com Use: Use the help of flashcards of different subjects as well as make your own. Authenticity: The additional help of sets that are made by others can be a great help to understand the classes you are taking further. Feedback: The feedback of the different ways to interact with the digital flashcards are always immediate. Higher Thinking:

quizlet User Friendliness: The instructions are easy to follow as they are laid out in many different ways. Privacy: Making an account is only through an email address and a password to save your progress and set reminders through it. Curriculum Standards: An all-encompassing app that is made to be a point where Differentiation: Depending on the needs of the student, whether deaf or not there is an audio option to hear all of the flashcards.

Why it made the list: Quizlet has been a handy tool for both of us for a long time. The endless supply of knowledge of subjects is quintessential for good studying habits. It rewards you for studying the material you are learning in a way that conforms to the person studying the material.
