Language Its origin is related to Uralo -Altaic, Polynesian and Chinese. Five vocal phonemes in Japanese: / a /, / i /, / u /, / e /, / o /. The writing contains a mixture of three separate alphabetic systems: kanji, katakana and hiragana. Kanji are ideograms of Chinese origin, each kanji has a different meaning and sound.

LITERATURE The earliest J apanese texts were written in Chinese, that is why the J apanese literature were heavily influenced by the Chinese literature. There are five periods of Japanese literature, the Yamato, Heian, Kamakura- Muromachi , Edo, and Modern periods. During the modern period J apanese writers were influenced by Western style poetry and literature. Japanese literature is becoming even more popular in the West, because Europeans and Asians have different ways of seeing the world and this is attractive.

Music Shōmyō are Buddhist chants, and gagaku is the orchestrated court music (traditional Japanese music) Gagaku was performed at the imperial court since the Heian period.
