DEFINITION: Reference is relationship between parts of language and things outside the language. It deals with relationship between language and the world. REFERENCE

Referent of a part of a language can be change: *some expression in language can have different references Example: Orange fruit color *some other expressions never refet to different reference Example: constant reference

Note: *there is very little constancy of reference in language, almost all of fixing of references come from the context and according to circumstance “ time,place and etc... In which the expression is used. Example : the first president of Indonesia was Soekarno
