About This Presentation

This presentation explains the 4 basic types of parabolas. It also shows how the focus, vertex, equation of the axis and directrix can be determined in each case. It also explains how the values change when the origin is shifted.
This is useful for grade eleven maths students.

Types of Parabola Grade 11 maths/NATA maths /Calculus SUMAN MATHEWS

This channel has videos for grades 11, 12, Engineering Mathematics ,NATA Mathematics and the GRE QUANT section. Consider subscribing to my channel for more videos. You can visit my page https://www.mathmadeeasy.co/lessons Feel free to send me your queries.

Here, we discuss the 4 basic types of parabola, We learn about their shapes, vertices, focus, equation of the axis, length of the latus rectum and equation of the directrix in each case. We also learn how to calculate the above when the vertex is shifted. We learn method of completion of squares to get a parabola in the above forms.

Question 1 For each of the following parabolas, find the length of the latus rectum, equation of the axis, focus and equation of the directrix.

THE LONGER AND HARDER YOU WORK, THE MORE LIKELY YOU ARE TO SUCCEED!

Question 2 Show that the following equations represent parabolas. Find their vertices, foci, directrices and axes

-   - a - -   4x- 11 = 0

We have learnt the 4 basic types of parabolas and how to calculate the vertex, focus, equation of the axis, equation of the directrix and length of the latus rectum in each case. We have learnt method of completion of squares to transform a given form to a parabola. How to calculate the vertex, focus, directrix and axis when the vertex is changed.
