WHAT IS A WAVE? RECALL

WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF WAVE ACCDG TO PROPAGATION? RECALL

WHAT IS A TRANSVERSE WAVE? RECALL

WHAT IS A LONGITUDINAL WAVE? RECALL

LET’S IDENTIFY THE PARTS OF THE WAVES

PARTS OF Transverse wave CREST TROUGH EQUILIBRIUM WAVELENGTH WAVELENGTH AMPLITUDE

PARTS OF longitudinal wave C O M P R E S S I O N R A R E F A C T I O N

Types of waves according to medium Mr. Aaron F. San Jose Science & Technology 7

Two classification of waves According to Propagation -Transverse Waves -Longitudinal Waves According to Medium -Mechanical Waves -Electromagnetic Waves

mechanical waves A mechanical wave is created when a source of energy causes a vibration to travel through a medium . (ex. Water waves, sound waves, seismic waves)

RIPPLE Is there a medium present? Where do the waves travel through?

SOUND WAVES Where do sound waves travel through?

SEISMIC WAVES Where do Seismic waves travel through?

IN SHORT… MECHANICAL WAVES CAN TRAVEL THROUGH ANY MEDIUM EXCEPT IN SPACE OR VACCUUM

ELECTROMAGNETIC waves A type of wave that can travel through space or vacuum (ex. Radio wave, Microwave, Infrared, Visible Light, Ultraviolet light, X-ray, Gamma ray )

Importance of each em wave

Radio wave Your radio captures radio waves emitted by radio stations, bringing your favorite tunes. Radio waves are also emitted by stars and gases in space.

micro wave Microwave radiation will cook your popcorn in just a few minutes, but is also used by astronomers to learn about the structure of nearby galaxies.

infrared Night vision goggles pick up the infrared light emitted by our skin and objects with heat. In space, infrared light helps us map the dust between stars.

Visible light Our eyes detect visible light. Fireflies, light bulbs, and stars all emit visible light.

Ultraviolet light Ultraviolet radiation is emitted by the Sun and are the reason skin tans and burns. "Hot" objects in space emit UV radiation as well.

X-ray A dentist uses X-rays to image your teeth, a radio technologist scans your bones, and airport security uses them to see through your bag.

Gamma ray Doctors use gamma-ray to kill cancer cells. The biggest gamma-ray generator of all is the Universe.

THOUGH TO PONDER DO NOT ABUSE THE USE OF EM WAVES
