Discovery and Name
Uranus was discovered by Sir William Herschel in 1781. He discovered it while
doing a star survey and had mistaken it for a comet or star. Uranus’ name came
from the Greek god of the sky.
What is Uranus made of?
Uranus is made of water, methane, and ammonia. It has no real surface and is
called both a ice and gas planet. Uranus’ atmosphere is made of both hydrogen
and helium.
