HISTORY OF STA. IGNACIA
Before settlers from the Ilocos province arrived, the area that is now Sta. Ignacia was a prairie. Led by a man from the Madriaga family, they settled in a place called Binaga , later known as Nabagbagan-Nambalan . The pioneers employed the kaingin system “an indigenous practice of cultivating small farm in the upland adopting. mixed cropping and crop diversification to clear the land for cattle raising and agriculture.”. Binaga became a barrio in 1845 and a town in 1875, renamed Sta. Ignacia in honor of its patron saint.

S W T Roads - Bumpy roads that can cause an accident. There are stones big and small, most of it is sand and other parts are very slippery. These threats make people uncomfortable while walking on the road and for the motorist. Pedestrian Crossing - In front of Plazuela is a main that has no pedestrians. Areas lacking pedestrian infrastructure pose numerous threats, including increased risk of pedestrian accidents, limited mobility for pedestrians, and reliance on less safe transportation options. Without sidewalks or crosswalks, pedestrians face danger from vehicular traffic, hindering accessibility and promoting sedentary lifestyles, which can lead to health issues.
S W T Drainage - Unfixed drainages pose several threats to communities and infrastructure. They can lead to flooding during heavy rainfall, causing property damage, erosion, and water contamination. RECOMMENDATION AND CONCLUSION In summary, our analysis highlights that both Sta. Ignacia Proper Plazuela and Nambalan River serve as open spaces with the shared objective of meeting user needs, promoting accessibility, ensuring safety during visits, providing a space for relaxation, and contributing to municipal capital development. Sta. Ignacia demonstrates effective urban planning as it is strategically located in the town proper, easily accessible to locals, and well-connected to various essential establishments such as fast-food chains, the police station, public market, health center, churches, and schools. These connections enhance its user-friendliness and contribute to a positive urban experience, reflecting good urban planning and design principles.
