Educational Attainment in UVU’s Service Area 2016

Degree Attainment in UVU’s Service Region In 2016, 192,055 people lacked a meaningful post-secondary degree. In 2017, 9,924 students graduated from a local high school – only 4325 enrolled at UVU. 2016 US Census Bureau 5,599 students remain question marks. If they did not enroll in another university, UVU’s responsibility is to be their pathway to a degree.

INSTRUCTIONAL LIMITATIONS The School of Business currently has 5,300+ students with only 78,000 sq. ft. in the current business building This equates to 14.7 sq. ft. per student With estimated enrollment growth this, will drop to 12 sq. ft. per student in 2 years Students are taking more hours on average than they did three or four years ago placing additional pressure

STRUCTURAL LIMITATIONS With 40 year old masonry shear wall and bearing structure with a post-tensioned floor system design, the removal of walls or drilling through floors could cause collapse Difficult to provide adequate Wi-Fi access Unable to install new media systems especially helpful for business instruction

The new Woodbury School of Business building was added to the approved Master Plan in 2004 and made a strategic priority on the Trustee approved 2016 Master Plan PART OF BOARD APPROVED CAMPUS MASTER PLAN

ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE CONSTRUCTION The new building will connect to our geothermal heating No additional boilers will be required Energy efficient construction and technology will be prioritized and utilized

ENABLES REPURPOSING OF FUNCTIONALLY OBSOLETE SPACE The existing 78,000 sq. ft. business building will be repurposed for programmatic expansion and classroom space better suited for its design and technical capabilities

ENABLES REPURPOSING OF FUNCTIONALLY OBSOLETE SPACE Institution estimates a need for 130 additional faculty offices in the next 5 years The current building has 80 offices 2,320 new students projected over the next 5 years Need an additional 146,297 sq. ft. over the next 5 years
