THE SELF FROM PSYCHOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE
IN PSCHOLOGY, THE SENSE OF THE SELF IS DEFINED AS THE WAY A PERSON THINKS ABOUT AND VIEWS HIS/HER TRAITS, BELIEFS, AND PURPOSE WITHIN THE WORLD.
SIGMUND FREUD (1856-1939) THE HUMAN PSYCHE IS DIVIDED INTO THREE PARTS: ID, EGO, AND SUPER EGO .
ID- PLEASURE PRINCIPLE Works on the principle of “I want it now!” Example: You see a cake and your mind says, “I want to eat the whole cake right now!”
EGO - REALITY PRINCIPLE Works on the reality principle. Example: Your mind says, “I’ll eat just one slice of cake, then save the rest for later.”
SUPER-EGO – MORAL PRINCIPLE It’s like your conscience or the voice of right and wrong. Works on rules, values, and guilt. Example: Your mind says, “No, don’t eat it all. It’s unhealthy and selfish.”
