IRIS
Ciliary zone is characterized by radial streaks(straight when pupil is small, wavey when pupil is dilated) crepts (peripheral crypts and central crypts) and contraction furrows Pupillary zone lies between the collarette and pigmented pupillary frills. It is relatively smooth and flat.
The tight junctions between cells of this layer (the two layers of epithelium) forms the blood aqueous barrier.
BLOOD AQUEOUS BARRIER It is the tight junctions (zonula occludens and zonula adherans ) formed by the cells of the inner non-pigmented epithelium of the ciliary body and the non-fenestrated endothelium of the iris capillaries . However, the endothelial cells of iris capillaries are not joined by tight junctions and in inflammatory conditions they become leaky, causing an aqueous flare.
