Good afternoon

What am I?

Directions: The class will divide into two groups. Each group must guess for the name of an animals that are commonly seen in the community. The first group who answered the correct word will be the winner.

I live in water and I have gills for breathing. My body is covered with scales. I have fins that help me move and keep my balance. What am I?

I spent part of my life in water and part of my life on land. I have gills for breathing but they will soon be replaced by a pair of lungs as I grow older. What am I?

Frog

I have lungs as the main organ of respiration and I have dry scaly skin. What am I?

snake

I have wings for flying. My skeleton is made up of strong but light bones. I have legs for walking and running. What am I?

I eat grass. I feed my young with milk. I have lungs for respiration and four legs for walking or running. What am I?

COW

What do you think these animals are? What do you think those animals are?

VERTEBRATES AND THEIR CHARACTERISTICS

Objectives: Determine the distinguishing characteristics and classification of Vertebrates Create an inventory of vertebrates that are commonly seen in the community Value the importance of animals by showing an active participation in class.

What do you SEE in the song? What do you THINK about the song? What do you WONDER about the song?

Activity 1 Directions: Divide the class into two groups. Each group will guess for the word pertaining about Vertebrates. Four pictures clue will be presented. The first group who answered the correct word will be the winner.

AMPHIBIANS

Animals that have a backbone or spine or vertebral column. The backbone or vertebrae is a long column of bones which supports the skeleton of the body.

( CLASS MAMMALIA ) Are group of vertebrates characterized by the presence of mammary glands which in female produce milk in order to feed their young. They reproduce sexually They have hair or fur They give birth to a live young

They have lungs and need air to breath They live on land, some in water. They have 4 legs and ears that stick out. They are warm blooded animals

( CLASS AVES ) Characterized to have feathers and wings They lay eggs They have two legs They have ear holes instead of ears They are warm blooded animals

They breathe underwater using gills not lungs They live in water They have scales and fins Cold blooded animals They lay many eggs Largest classification of vertebrates

A fish never closes it’s eyes. The world’s largest fish is the whale shark or locally called butanding . While the Pandaka pygmea or Philippine pygmy goby is one of the world’s smallest fish.

( CLASS REPTILIA ) They have scales Have dry skin Usually lay eggs, sometimes live young Ear hole instead of ears They have four legs or no legs like the snake Cold blooded animals

( CLASS AMPHIBIA ) “ amphi ” meaning double and “bios” meaning life Live on land and in water Cold blooded animals Moist smooth skin ( no hair or fur ) Lay many eggs

Activity 2 . Pick Me UP! (5 minutes) In this activity, the students will work in 2 groups. Students are going to classify the names of an animals below the table according to the classifications of vertebrates. Write your answers in a piece of manila paper. This is a group activity; you are expected to collaborate and brainstorm with one another.
