What is vocationalisation of education?
The UNESCO defined vocational
education as a “comprehensive
term embracting those aspects of
the educational process involving,
in addition to general education,
the study of technologies and
related sciences and the
acquisition of practical skills,
attidudes, understanding, and
knowledge relating to occupations
in the various sectors of economic
and social life.
Need for vocationalisation of education
1. Vocational surveys
Vocational surveys of
areas should be
undertaken before
finalising the vocational
courses even where they
have been launched.
Surveys also need to be
conducted for the location
of schools meant for
imparting vocational
education
2. Starting of new schools in rural areas
Enough facilities
for vocational
education are
not available in
rural areas.
3. Counselling and placement
Counselling and
placement personnel
should be appointed in
schools. They should
advise students on the
choices of elective
subjects and help them to
use all available facilities
to imorove their
performance.
4. Curriculum and textbooks
People working in
practical works as
well as academicians
should join hands and
prepare the
curriculum and
textbooks for
vocational subjects.
5. Apprenticeship and recruitment
Apprenticeship
programes should be
arranged for those
who complete
vocational higher
secondary
education.
