ACTIVE & PASSIVE VOICE Description
Voice The voice of the verb describes the relationship between the action that the verb expresses and the participants . It is that form of the verb which shows whether what is denoted by the subject does some thing or has something done to it. There are two types of voice. Active voice Passive voice
Why passive voice __ at all? We don’t know the agent . The minister was killed. We want to avoid mentioning the agent . The rubbish has not been collected. When the agent is understood . The thief has not been caught. 4. When the agent is vague . one, somebody, we, you, they, people etc.
difference Active voice A verb is in active voice when its form shows that the person or thing denoted by the subject does some thing or is the doer of the action. Active voice is called so because the person denoted by the subject acts. Passive voice A verb is in passive voice when its form shows that something is done to the person or thing denoted by the subject. The passive voice is called so because the person or thing denoted by the subject is not active but passive, i.e , suffers or receive some action .
