Why Women’s Shirts Button on the Left and Men’s on the Right Name: Aminul Islam ID - 252-022-0-121 Dept: PGD in APM PRESENTATION ON

Historical Reason Men’s shirts – buttons on the right: Historically, men dressed themselves. Most were right-handed, so having the buttons on the right made it easier to fasten. In earlier centuries, men often carried weapons (like swords) on the left side — opening with the right hand was more practical.

Historical Reason Women’s shirts – buttons on the left: In the past, wealthy women were often dressed by maids. Since most maids were right-handed, it was easier for them to fasten buttons that were on the left side of the wearer. This practice became a tradition and later a fashion standard.

Tradition & Fashion The difference became a fashion convention. It remains as a heritage design feature. Helps distinguish men’s and women’s shirts. Thank you
