Do not wear tight fitting synthetic under garments which cause excessive sweating leading to infection . Drink plenty of water If you hold back urine, it causes stasis in the bladder and promotes infection .

Antibiotics are precious life-saving medicines Antibiotics , also known as antibacterials , are medications that destroy or slow down the growth of bacteria. They include a range of powerful drugs and are used to treat diseases caused by bacteria.  Antibiotics

A ntimicrobial resistance Antimicrobial resistance occurs when an organism ( bacteria, parasites, viruses or fungi) evolves and develops resistance to an antimicrobial that should inhibit or destroy it . AMR is reducing the effectiveness of antimicrobials to treat infections The misuse, overuse, and inappropriate use o f antimicrobials contributes to antimicrobial resistance The World Health Organization (WHO) has identified AMR as ‘one of the biggest threats to global health ’. Antimicrobial resistance is happening now

HOW TO PREVENT AMR? Antibiotics should only be used when absolutely necessary. Use an antibiotic that is only effective against the specific type of bacteria you are infected with . Follow your doctor’s advice and recommendations, and complete the antibiotic treatment exactly as prescribed.  Never give or share your antibiotics with others . Never demand antibiotics for a sore throat, a cold or the flu. Antibiotics have no effect on these conditions . The more antibiotic treatments you have, the greater the risk of developing resistant bacteria.  It is very important to prevent infection. Ensure proper hand hygiene, especially abroad, and in contact with patients . Antibiotic resistance can be prevented through immunization. It is important for both you and others that you follow the vaccination programmes.
