DEFINITION Worm infestation are long term diseases that produce few symptoms in their early stages and some time serious effect at well –development stages or may be quite fatal at times

Causative agent Worm can be generally classified as ROUND WORMS:pin worm,hook worm FLAT WORM:tape worm FLUKES:liver fluke

ETIOLOGY Fecal contamination of water Unsanitary condition Eating raw or undercooked meats or fish Keeping animals in close unsanitary condition Rat or insect infestation

Cont : Malnourished or diseased person Heavy mosquito or fly infestation Play grounds where children can eat come in contact with the soil Contaminated food Unhygenic life style

GENERAL PATHOPHYSIOLOGY

Symptoms of a worm infestation Loss of appetite Stomach pain/discomfort Ithchy around the anus Irritation and sleeplessness(especially at night) Unexpected weight loss

CONT Worm visible in stool Blood in stool Anemia Nausea Vomiting Rash UTI Diarrhoea

MANAGEMENT there are srveral medicines that may be used to treat worm infections-they are sometimes called Anti- helmintics Mebendazole is the most commonly prescribe medicine for worms

HOW TO PREVENT WORM INFESTATION Wear chappals /shoes while walking or playing keep nails short and clean

wash hands with soap,especially before eating and after using toilet Drink safe and clean water

Wash vegetables fruits in clean water eat properly cooked food Use clean toilet keep surroundings clean
