Enrichment

Opportunities within Sixth Form Your studies are vitally important; however, we realise that your time at Sixth Form is about more than the subjects you choose. We want to prepare our students to become active citizens who make a positive contribution to their community and the wider world; we want to stimulate minds and foster a culture of curiosity and creativity. We want to give all students the opportunity to develop both academically and personally, so they can be the ‘best that they can be’. At West Hatch Sixth Form, our enrichment opportunities are as equally important as the curriculum we offer. Enrichment is not one thing; it is our overarching term for all the wider opportunities we offer at West Hatch Sixth Form. It has been developed and expanded to provide all students with opportunities to engage with various activities and programmes, aimed at helping them develop their skills, make informed decisions and prepare them for the future. At its simplest, Enrichment is a way of providing students with that extra bit needed to ensure success in the future. The purpose of our enrichment curriculum is to provide a broad range of opportunities to learn and develop outside of the classroom. These opportunities foster professional skills such as resilience, active listening, confidence, self-esteem and teamwork which is something we want to offer to all year 12 students this year. What is Enrichment?

The Lucy Cavendish College Summer Preparation Programme 2024 is designed to bridge the gap between GCSE study to A-Levels by providing students with a month-long programme of academic enrichment tailored to their stage of the curriculum. The programme will consist of study skills workshops on a range of important themes such as time management and essay writing, university readiness sessions to support students as they plan their next steps to top Universities like Cambridge, and substantive knowledge sessions, designed to supplement students' foundational academic knowledge so that they can hit the ground running when they start their A-Levels.

The programme has proved very beneficial for students in the past years, with 9 in 10 receiving offers to study at Russell Group universities, and over the past 2 years participants have almost doubled their chances of being offered a place at either Oxford or Cambridge. Following the 2022/23 programme, 90% of participants felt that the programme had provided them with the resources and support to achieve the grades they wanted at A-Level  The programme will begin in November 2024. In Year 12 students will participate in regular subject-specific enrichment classes in each of their core A-Level subjects, subject taster sessions, and monthly Peer Discussion Groups, allowing them to continuously develop their subject-specific knowledge, as well as their oracy, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Students will also complete a Supracurricular Exploration Project in May, helping them to explore their subject interests further and think more seriously about possible degree choices.
